Yesterday we had the great pleasure to receive our first three undergraduate students that will carry out a summer internship in our group. They come from three different states in Mexico (Colima, DF and Coahuila) with also different mayors in chemical engineering, environmental engineering and materials science. They will work in the areas of nuclear and offshore wind energy, topics that we are currently working on.
As a person who also discovered the love for science trough activities like this one, I hope they enjoy working with us. There is much to learn from both sides. They will face new and challenging topics that are not part of their degree but also the postgraduate students and myself will have to experience an new way of working with them if we want to inspire them and make them feel welcome. Without a doubt this will be a very enriching experience.
Finally, we are very grateful to the Mexican Academy of Science and the Programa Delfín (Dolphin Program) for providing the funding for these internships. There is a lot to do in Mexico in regard to science but it is through activities like this one that we can progress.
